“I adopted Yogi from his owner who was no longer able to ride him due to his severe insect sensitivity. Because of his extreme symptoms, Yogi could not be turned out and was uncomfortable being outside for any length of time. While he was still amenable to being ridden, his obvious discomfort and constant shaking and twitching made riding impossible. His skin was hypersensitive, his coat dry, sticky and flaky, his hooves weak and brittle and his manner dull. He had strange repetitive behaviors that made him seem quite odd. When left on his own in a field he was frantic, so he was basically a shut in for over four years.
When I took over his care, I did some research as decided to take Yogi off all the drugs he was on to control his behavior and change his feed from 10lbs a day of a soy bean meal and wheat middlings based pelleted feed to an organic whole oat feed. He was considered a hard keeper and so was given the maximum amount of the soy based feed. Once we switched, he started improving immediately, if slowly and could be fed less.
After discussing options with a horse nutritionist, I contacted Platinum Performance and spoke to a dietary vet about Yogi's history and issues. He has been on Platinum Performance ever since. He is now down to 4lbs of food a day and thriving. He is an outside horse and loves to graze. Only really big horse flies bother him now - which he tells me is completely normal. His coat is soft and shiny, and he only needs shoes on his front feet. The best change is his crazy goofy self that emerged. He's one of the barn favorites with his silly faces and playful personality. We also found out he's an OTTB formerly known as Gripit and Ripit!
We don't compete though his movement has improved and is beautiful.”

Samantha & NTEC Quooper
NTEC Quooper was imported by Kai Handt of North Texas Equestrian Centre in December 2016. His owners in Germany had tried to train him as driving horse, but Quooper had other ideas and apparently smashed up a carriage. Kai saw him on a trip back to Germany and thought he would be perfect for me as a dressage horse due to his breeding (by Quaterback out of Samba Hit mare), his forgiving temperament and his super athletic conformation and gaits.
So after a generous trial period of a couple of months, I bought Quooper in April this year as a 5- year-old. Because he had not been ridden much, he had no steering, didn't really understand leg aids, and had poor muscle development.
I brought him home, and started him on Platinum Performance twice a day, along with a pelleted feed, ad-lib hay, and at least 12 hours a day turned out in a 6-acre field. Schooling and conditioning work started, 5 days a week for just 20 minutes a day initially, and increasing as he got fitter and developed more muscle.
In May 2017, Quooper did his first ever dressage show at training level. His steering at the time was still a bit like turning a submarine, and so it was going to be an achievement just to keep him within the boards. Well he exceeded all my expectations and won all 6 class over 3 days, with scores in the 70's!
After another show at Training Level, I decided to try him at First Level. Well my golden boy won his 2 First Level tests on scores of 77% and 78%! He was now qualified for the United States Dressage Federation (USDF) Regional Championships at Training and First Level.
To gain more experience before the Championships, I entered him into another show, where again he excelled himself, winning 3 classes and coming second in another, all on scores between 73-76%.
The Great American Insurance Group/United States Dressage Federation Region 9 Dressage Championships were held in early October this year, only 10 short months after Quooper began his transitioning from driving horse to dressage horse. I didn't really know how he would cope with the big show atmosphere, the bleachers with people looking down on him, the loud speakers, the flags and the hundred other things that can scare a young horse.
I needn't have worried. On the first day of the Championship classes, my golden boy rose to the occasion, and I felt from him “it’s OK, I have got this.” In the best ride we have ever done, he strutted into the ring and produced a faultless and classy test, which earned us the GAIG USDF Region 9 First Level Adult Amateur Champion title! We also won the GAIG USDF Region 9 Training Level Adult Amateur Champion title, the Southwest Dressage Training Championships and were Reserve Champion in the Southwest Dressage First Level Championships.
After a well-deserved week off in the field, he is now back in work, training towards Second Level and flying changes.
Being part of developing this untrained horse into the muscled, shiny, high-achieving athlete he is today has been the most amazing experience. Of course this development is multifaceted, and I believe that providing the right nutrition to help him build muscle and weight whilst remaining sensible and level-headed is vital. Platinum Performance has been an important part of this. I also feed Platinum Performance to my two hard working fox hunting horses, who need high-quality nutrition to enable their energy requirements, and our old retiree horse, who has never looked better.
