Jessie Telford is no stranger to the rodeo arena, she’s been around it her entire life. Not only did her father compete in team roping, but her grandfather, Gene Clark, is in the PRCA Hall of Fame for his time fighting bulls as a rodeo clown. After growing up on the family’s cattle ranch near Terrebonne, Oregon, Jesse moved to San Luis Obispo to attend college at Cal Poly and compete in college rodeo. Her love of horses never faded and she continued to raise and train barrel horses until she finally reached her ultimate goal in 2018 of qualifying for her first WNFR aboard her home-grown gelding Famous Cool Whip. He was an own son of the great Dash Ta Fame and out of a mare Jessie competed on in high school and college rodeo named Had A Kanita. Although she lost Cool Whip far before his time in 2021, he holds a special place in her heart for carrying her to two WNFR’s and The American. Jessie continues to raise and train barrel horses, however much of her time now is spent cheering on her two daughters, Shawny and Sierra, who both rope, run barrels and compete at the reined cow horse shows. They are turning out to be pretty handy on a horse, just like their mother.
