What are omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, and why are they important?
Omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids either cannot be produced at all or in sufficient quantities to maintain health by a dog's body, and, therefore must be consumed in the diet. When a dog's body is too high in omega-6 fatty acids compared to omega-3's, a dietary imbalance occurs. This dietary imbalance can cause excess inflammation and can predispose dogs to a host of chronic and severe health conditions. By administering omega-3 rich Platinum Performance®, you can help support a healthy ratio of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.
Can Platinum Performance® Canine be given with other supplements?
Platinum Performance® was developed to be administered safely with other supplements. Platinum Performance® is very comprehensive and can often replace other supplements such as vitamins and trace minerals, skin and coat, antioxidant and joint supplements. If your dog has additional needs, talk to your veterinarian or a Platinum Advisor about which Platinum Performance® products may be the right choice.

My dog is sometimes stiff and sore, how can I help his joints function better?
Platinum Performance® Canine provides joint supporting ingredients such as omega-3 fatty acids, glucosamine sulfate and antioxidants to help protect healthy cartilage from free radical damage. For further joint support, Platinum Performance® CJ (Complete Joint) has all of the benefits of our Canine formula with the addition of joint specific ingredients such as hyaluronic acid.
Does Oral hyaluronic acid (HA) supplementation benefit my dog?
Platinum Performance® Canine CJ contains hyaluronic acid (HA) to help lubricate and cushion your dog’s joints. Although it is commonly administered intra-articularly (injected), orally administered HA has been shown, in several studies, to be bio-available (absorbable) and effective in augmenting or replacing the damaged HA in the joint that is commonly caused by trauma or overuse. By providing your dog a daily dose of HA it is constantly available to the body and actively working to help support joints and avoid stiffness. If your dog has an existing joint condition, or is stiff or sore, you should consider an oral HA supplement to help support his joints.
Is the amount of Silicon in Platinum Performance® sufficient for my dog?
For most dogs the amount of silicon in all three Platinum Performance® Canine foundation formulas is adequate to help maintain healthy bones and connective tissues. However, if your dog has a bone-related health concern, Osteon™ can be added to your supplement program to provide advanced support for bone health.
What is hyaluronic acid (HA) and how does it help my dog?
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a glycosaminoglycan in connective, epithelial and neural tissues. It is a major component of synovial fluid that coats and lubricates joint surfaces to reduce friction between bones during movement. In doing so, HA helps maintain healthy joint function.
What is the role of sulfur in joint health?
MSM is a naturally occurring sulfur compound, which is critical to joint health and helps maintain the structure of connective tissue in the joint. The sulfur in MSM is used to produce glycosaminoglycans that are the fundamental building blocks of joint cartilage and whose molecules are linked together in chains by disulfide bonds. These bridges help reduce conformational flexibility of glycosaminoglycan chains, making cartilage firm and resilient.
What is the role of glucosamine in joint health?

What are free radicals and how do antioxidants affect them?
Free radicals are chemicals produced either as a result of normal metabolism or in response to exercise, inhalation of dust and air pollutants, ingestion of rancid food or exposure to ultraviolet light. Free radicals cause reactions that damage proteins, lipids and DNA. Antioxidants are “free radical scavengers” that remove free radicals, terminate unwanted reactions and prevent oxidative damage to other molecules.

How can I determine the source of a skin allergy?
Work with your veterinarian to identify the source of a skin allergy. By following a few simple steps, you can move toward alleviating your dog’s allergic response.
- Make a list of possible potential environmental allergens your dog is exposed to, including shampoos, cleaning/ garden chemicals etc. Eliminate these allergens individually to identify the one responsible for the reaction.
- Monitor and record outbreak symptoms and try to establish a pattern (diet or seasonality).
- Introduce dietary changes individually so you can determine which change is benefitting your dog.

My dog is overweight, how can I help him shed pounds?
